24 Weeks Pregnant | Time to Relax, Unwind & Connect

24 Weeks Pregnant and you’re well into your sixth month. For many women, this is a golden pocket of pregnancy. The nausea has usually eased, your bump is beautifully visible, and baby’s movements are becoming stronger and more predictable.

This is often the stage where pregnancy starts to feel real in the most wonderful way. You can feel kicks, rolls and stretches. You might notice patterns forming. And emotionally, you may feel more connected than ever.


Baby at 24 Weeks

At 24 weeks, your baby is around the size of an ear of corn and weighs approximately 600–700 grams. Their lungs are developing rapidly, tiny taste buds are forming, and they can respond to sound. You may even notice baby reacting to your voice or music.

This is also around the time your care provider may discuss gestational diabetes screening, if you haven’t had it already.


Common Questions at 24 Weeks

Is it normal to feel more emotional right now?

Completely. Hormones are still fluctuating, your body is changing quickly, and the reality of becoming a parent is starting to sink in. It is common to feel a mix of excitement, calm, overwhelm and vulnerability all at once.

How often should I feel baby move?

Movements are becoming stronger but may not yet be perfectly regular. Some days baby will feel very active, other days quieter. Over the coming weeks, patterns will become clearer. If you ever notice a significant change in movement, contact your midwife or doctor.

Why am I suddenly more tired again?

Your blood volume has increased significantly by now and your body is working incredibly hard. Iron levels can begin to dip around this stage, so if fatigue feels heavier than expected, it is worth mentioning at your next appointment.

Is it too early to start preparing for birth?

Not at all. This is actually a lovely time to gently begin. You have enough energy to research and plan without feeling rushed. Antenatal classes often fill quickly, so now is a good time to book.


1. Take It Easy and Lower Your Stress

You are carrying not just extra weight, but responsibility, anticipation and planning. Be kind to yourself. If that means ready-to-eat meals, takeaways, or asking for help, that is more than okay.

If you feel the urge to nest, channel it gently. Freeze a few meals. Sort baby clothes slowly. Create a calming space rather than a perfect one.


2. Give Your Body a Physical Break

Swelling in your feet and ankles may start to appear, especially at the end of the day or during warmer weather. Elevate your legs when resting, drink plenty of water, and avoid standing for long periods.

If you’ve continued exercising, that’s wonderful. But this is the time to focus on movement rather than intensity. Walking, stretching, swimming and prenatal yoga are all excellent options. Listen to your body first.


3. Strengthen the Bond With Your Baby

Many mums say 24 weeks is when bonding truly deepens. Try placing your hands on your bump when baby moves. Talk to them. Play a favourite song. Write a letter.

If you are keeping a pregnancy journal, this is a beautiful week to record what their movements feel like and how your emotions are evolving. These are the details you will forget sooner than you think.


4. Prepare Your Home Thoughtfully

While baby will not be crawling for many months, it is wise to begin thinking about safety if you are already rearranging rooms. Consider:

  • Where cords from monitors and lamps will sit
  • Whether picture hooks are secure
  • Where gates may eventually be needed
  • Safe storage for cleaning products

Small changes now will feel far less overwhelming later.
