23 Weeks Pregnant and just under 18 weeks to go. Over halfway there. For this first-time Mum, everything feels like it’s moving quickly — but in the best way. This is the first baby in both families and the first grandchild, so excitement levels are high.
Here she shares how she’s feeling at 23 weeks pregnant with her first baby boy.
Week: 23
Baby is the size of a: Grapefruit (around 28–30cm long now and gaining strength every day).
What’s the best piece of pregnancy advice you’ve received so far?
This is our first pregnancy, first grandchild in the family, and both my partner and I are the first in our friend groups to have a baby. So, we don’t actually get too much advice yet — but oh man, the grandparents are excited! I am very grateful to have the support we have on both sides. The biggest thing people have said is to just enjoy it, because it goes fast.
Any morning sickness?
I didn’t have morning sickness. I mainly just felt tired and groggy in the first trimester. I have however constantly hiccupped throughout this journey, which my co-workers make fun of saying “ribbet!” I had zero appetite in my first trimester meaning toast for dinner most nights. Now in the second trimester my appetite has come back in full force.
The strangest thing — I wasn’t sick the whole first trimester, and then I did two prenatal Pilates classes… and threw up in both! It makes me a little nervous to return.
Will you find out baby’s gender?
Yes, we decided we wanted to know as soon as we could — and it’s a boy! Everyone in our circle (except the grandparents) guessed boy, including my partner, so I wasn’t too surprised. Being a girl with no brothers, it does feel a little unknown — but either way we would have been so happy.
How are you feeling emotionally?
Honestly, really good. It feels surreal that we’re already over halfway. Sometimes I sit and think about how different life will look this time next year and it feels exciting rather than overwhelming.
Big changes ahead?
My partner and I don’t actually live together yet, and neither of us have ever lived with partners before. So this year will be massive for us. We’re moving in together in August, and baby arrives in October. From flatting situations to parenting in a matter of months — many firsts to come!
What are you most looking forward to?
Seeing my partner become a Dad. Watching our families meet him. And finally holding him — it still doesn’t quite feel real that he’s growing in there.
Anything you’re feeling nervous about?
Probably the transition. Moving in together, learning how to parent together, and doing all of this for the first time. But we feel ready.
