Guest Pregnancy Journal: 28 Weeks Pregnant – Baby Number 2

Week: 28

Baby is the size of a: Eggplant

Is this pregnancy similar to your first?

Yes indeedy, number two for us. Paige will be 18–19 months when her brother arrives… eek. This pregnancy definitely took us by surprise and I absolutely freaked out at the thought of two under two. But now that we are getting closer to meeting him, the excitement is really kicking in.

This time around feels completely different. With my first, everything was new and unknown. Now, I know what newborn life looks like. I know how little sleep you get. I know how much your world shifts. That knowledge is both comforting and slightly terrifying.

Are you finding out the gender?

We did find out this time at the request of my hubby. I personally love a good surprise, but knowing we are having a little boy has made it all feel very real. It has also helped us start imagining our little family of four.

How has your body felt this pregnancy?

I started this pregnancy at 62kg. At 27 weeks I had gained 9.6kg and at 28 weeks it was sitting at 10kg. With my first pregnancy I gained a total of 9.8kg. Interesting… but also, who really cares.

I am running around after a toddler this time and choccy biccies are very hard to say no to. I’m also far less precious about everything. There’s less time to overthink and more time just getting on with it.

What has surprised you most this time?

How quickly it’s going. When you already have a baby, the weeks fly by. There isn’t the same luxury of lying on the couch reading pregnancy apps. Life is loud and busy and full.

What are you most nervous about?

Two under two. The juggle. The sleep deprivation round two. Making sure Paige still feels secure and loved while we all adjust.

What are you most excited about?

Seeing Paige become a big sister. Watching their bond grow. Completing our family. And finally meeting this little boy who already feels like such a big presence in our lives.

If you could say anything to your baby right now it would be:

Keep growing strong in there. We are so ready for you… even if we’re also slightly freaking out.
