29 Weeks Pregnant | Running Out of Room

Baby is around the size of a butternut squash, and the kicks are getting harder to ignore.

What is happening this week

Your baby is roughly 38cm and around 1.2 kilograms. The brain is developing rapidly, and they can now regulate their own body temperature to a degree. Bones are absorbing calcium quickly, which is why your own intake matters more from here.

Space is starting to run short, so movements change character — less somersaulting, more elbows and heels.

How you might be feeling

Third trimester tiredness is a different animal to first trimester tiredness. It is physical rather than chemical, and it arrives with heartburn, breathlessness and the discovery that no sleeping position works for more than twenty minutes.

You may also be getting Braxton Hicks — tightenings that come and go without pattern.

Worth writing down

Write down what the movements feel like now, while it is still strange. In a few months you will be holding a baby whose knees and elbows you have already met from the inside, and that is a genuinely odd thing to have experienced.

Our Pregnancy Journal — Made With Love has a page for every week to forty, so there is somewhere for this to go. It pairs with Your First Years for afterwards, or take both together. If you are buying for someone else, the Pregnancy to Baby Keepsake Gift Set covers the whole journey.
