What is happening this week
Your baby is roughly 40cm and about 1.4 kilograms. The brain is growing fast enough that the skull stays soft and unfused, which is what allows it to move through the birth canal.
Their eyes can open and close, and they can tell the difference between light and dark through the abdominal wall.
How you might be feeling
Thirty weeks tends to bring a psychological shift. Ten weeks sounds finite in a way that twelve did not, and plenty of people find the nesting instinct arrives around here — sudden, specific and quite hard to argue with.
It is also the week many start thinking seriously about leave, hospital bags and who is going to look after the dog.
Worth writing down
Record what you are getting ready and why. The particular things you cared about at thirty weeks will look very funny to you in a year, and even funnier to your child in twenty.
