Guest Pregnancy Journal – Week 10
This second-time Mum shares her reflections at 9–10 weeks pregnant with baby number two. From juggling life as a teacher and mum to a toddler, to navigating morning sickness and body confidence, her story is refreshingly positive and grounded.
Week 10 – Baby is the Size of a Prune
Cravings: No cravings yet, but the smell of meat is making me feel sick.
Weight: 60kgs – no weight gain yet.
I have been feeling…
Very tired and needing naps on the weekend. I’m a teacher, so by the end of the day I’m pretty exhausted.
My partner has been…
Super supportive. Our daughter has really bonded with him and he has stepped into the primary caregiver role more often so I can rest.
Morning sickness
I had a late period so I took a test, and morning sickness has been on and off since then. If I don’t eat regularly I feel sick and will throw up.
When I see my body I feel…
Excited and happy. I love having a bump and weight gain isn’t something I worry about. I can’t wait to have more of a bump and dress cute to show it off.
The best thing about being pregnant so far
Knowing that you are doing this incredible thing of growing life. I love having to move around to get comfortable and sitting in certain ways.
Will you find out the gender?
Yes, we will. It helps my husband bond and prepare for the arrival of another little one. I also can’t wait to talk about whether our daughter is having a brother or sister so she can feel more involved.
Exercise, food & sleep
I’m not worried about gaining weight. I go to the gym once a week and when I feel less tired I increase that to 2–3 times per week. I won’t try anything new as that wouldn’t be safe.
Food-wise, I follow Healthline guidelines about what to avoid and weigh in weekly. I haven’t gained anything yet, so I’ll speak to my midwife next week about that. Last time I gained more towards the end.
Sleep-wise, if I stay up past 10pm I struggle to sleep and then feel exhausted the next day.
About your daughter & the age gap
Our daughter turns three at the end of August, so she’ll be nearly three and a half when baby arrives. The age gap wasn’t planned to be exact — we just felt ready.
Our first was a surprise. Before trying for our second, we wanted to buy a house and get married.
We had no trouble conceiving either time. Six months before my first pregnancy, I had a cyst burst on my right ovary which caused some damage, but we were told not to worry at that stage. My husband had low sperm count and was taking supplements. Somehow, everything just worked out.
This pregnancy has been similar in terms of morning sickness. It feels like it’s dragging slightly longer because we haven’t announced yet — I found out at three weeks this time, whereas I was nearly eight weeks with my first.
If I could say anything to my baby right now…
I love you and can’t wait to meet you. I promise to protect you with everything I have and I will treasure the fourth trimester — something I didn’t fully understand until after your big sister was born.
